ABOUT COUNSELLING

Have you been thinking that you want to understand yourself better? Do you want to let go of external expectations? Maybe you know something needs to change but are unsure how to make it happen?

We can work together to create a life that matches your values.

Together we can define your values and create a plan for how to align with these values.

SAMANTHA HERBERT M.A., C.C.C.

I am a white, queer, second-generation settler to the lower mainland of BC. I am a Canadian Certified Counsellor (#10004680) with a Masters of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology (Adler University, 2018). I have been working in the non-profit sector seeing counselling clients since 2017.

My focus has been on working with people who have experienced trauma and abuse, addictions, and queer issues.  My approach to therapy depends on each individual I see, and I use techniques from Feminist, Cognitive-Behavioural, and Narrative therapies and I am EMDR-trained.  I help clients understand and process how their past experiences, present emotions, and current behaviours are interacting to create their current reality.

After increasing self-understanding I can help clients move towards creating lasting change in how they feel in their mind, body, and life.  I strive to emphasize the cultural and societal factors that can affect our understanding of ourselves and the world.

I am an uninvited settler who lives and works on the stolen and un-surrendered land of the Halq’eméylem speaking peoples.  The impacts of colonization continue to affect Indigenous peoples inside and outside mental health spaces.  Learn more about the land you are on here.
